6 Setup And Configuration

How to use switch as encoder?

Since version 3.4.1 of SLIMax Manager you can use rotary switches as encoders.

The new SWITCH AS ENCODER feature works like this, really straightforward don’t worry:

Example with rFactor 2:
Imagine the Temporary Boost of rFactor 2 settings set with key q to increase value and w to dicrease value and you want to manage it with your switch 3 connected to your display device like the SLI-PRO or SIM RACE F1:

Edit your rFactor 2 SLI-PRO setup with Advanced Options
double-click the function switch3_as_encoder
enter key up/down = q/w
save

Example with iRacing McLaren MP4-30 and the switch 9 of SIM Race F1 device display:

Edit iRacing OPTIONS/Controls/Diff Entry Inc with D key
Edit iRacing OPTIONS/Controls/Diff Entry Dec with C key

2015-12-27_215710

Edit your SLIMax Manager Pro setup using Advanced Options Panel

SIMRACEF1 > switch9_as_encoder and enter D and C key and save

IMPORTANT:put the SWITCH 9 at position 0 ( ZERO ) before enter the track. The switch is calibrated the first time you use it, don’t touch the switch during calibration.

Why the ABS Effect not working with my Fanatec CSP?

FOR ALL ABS EFFECT Fanatic!! :)

 fanatec_clubspot_pedal_v3 fanatec_clubspot_pedal_v2fanatec_clubspot_pedal_v1

The true ABS Effect works ONLY  with simulation or game API that provide a DYNAMIC status level of ABS like Live For Speed

if you try this effect with a STATIC value of ABS level (almost all sim/games), this will not be a TRUE ABS effect but it can be cool as well, give it a try and you will see… ;)

Need latest version 3.4.6.1 of SLIMax Manager Pro and CSP (Fanatec Pedals Set V2/V3)

Important points to know about ABS Effect behavior:

  1. The ABS Effect needs a dynamic ABS Level value to work as A TRUE abs effect (Live For Speed provides this telemetry data for example)
  2. Activate the effect on other sim with static value result to vibrate the brake pedal when pressed and is called a “fake ABS Effect” but seems to be appreciated by Codemaster F1 fanboys ;)
  3. See the screenshots, the recommended value in Fanatec setup is 115 to 135 (120 is good) and obviously the setup must be selected

iRacing COMBO SETUP behaviors included

2014-05-05_170810

For your convenience, SLIMax Manager is provided with a COMBO SETUP for iRacing simulation that choose automatically the right settings for you depending the car you drive. This can be very useful as the shiftlights method, Optimal Shiftpoints and other settings are selected automatically to reflect the engine specs but the disadvantage is that any settings change made with SLIMax Mgr (i.e. in Basic or Advanced Options… ) will be discarded in favor of the COMBO SETUP which use a script to supersede all other settings…

2 solutions:

1) No change, you are happy with the current iRacing Combo Setup, it is good enough for you

2) Disable iRacing Combo, don’t choose the setup named …_iracing_combo.cfg and go to “Select Devices Setups” menu and choose the default settings for your device and create your own. See how to create a custom setup step by step FAQ.

Dual Colors Shiftlights?

You don’t need a script to display a dual green/red or red/blue shiftlights,
1) open the Advanced panel,
2) set your SHIFTLIGHTS METHOD method to 2 (percentage)
3) double-click RPM THRESHOLD PERCENTAGE to see the sliders and just shift left all values and set blue led to zero

See the FAQ here to learn how to change RPM curve

Here is 2 screenshots above with Cadillac cts-v with custom dual led green/red shiftlights in action.

Here is 4 QUICK screenshots of the iRacing Riley Daytona Prototype car with a custom dual led red/blue shiftlights in action.

Using the Button To char mapping wizard to simulate a keystroke:

We are going to use the new button to char mapping function (simulate a keystroke when pressing a button) included in SLIMax Manager using the wizard panel.

First download the latest version of SLIMax Manager (v2.2.0.5 or greater is required )
and follow the topic HERE to create a new custom settings for rFactor2 in our example.

1) open Advanced panel
2) select SLIPRO > BUTTONSCHARSMAPPING tag
3) set it to true
4) click APPLY button to apply your change
5) save your settings

6) now double-click the BTNCHARLIST tag to define the mapping

For our stupid example ;) we are going to map button 3 to key ‘H’ to toggle ON/OFF headlights

7) when you double-click the BTNCHARSLIST tag a wizard panel show up and let you choose:
a) the button from 1 to 16
b) the key
c) the delay in ms
d) the modifier SHIFT or ALT or CTRL

8 ) in our example we use the key ‘H’, the default delay 200ms and no modifier
9) click OK to save your change
10) APPLY the change to the TAG and save settings file

Now pressing button 3 of your SLI-PRO device toggle ON/OFF headlights in rFactor2

Obviously, the button 3 MUST NOT be assigned in the rFactor 2 simulation to avoid any conflict.

Codemasters DiRT 3 PATCH Beware!

Since the last update 1.2 of Codemasters DiRT3, all motion simulators and outgauge software are not working anymore (those using extradata=”1” – extended UDP packet with information needed for SLI Devices).

Beware, DO NOT UPDATE any more your Codies games or downgrade if possible to continue using your rig. We are waiting for a new patch that will fix it…

ATTENTION: DiRT Showdown 1.0 seems to be affected by this nasty bug!

CHECK YOUR DEVICE BEFORE POSTING IN FORUM:

Check if your device is connected properly before asking for support.

If your device isn’t connected properly contact your hardware supplier as this is typically a hardware/firmware issue.

We do not provide hardware/firmware support.

thanks for your understanding.

Use the SLI-PRO or the SIM RACE Deluxe or SIM RACE F1 configuration app to see if your firmware is ok

you should have:

Version 0.22 or 0.23

 AND NOT *BOOTLOADER*

SLI-PRO FIRMWARE ISSUE:

In Devices and Printers window, you should see SLI-PRO Interface and not bootloader

(bootloader usually means that you need to reinstall your firmware ).

Configure Race Room Racing Experience (R3E) From Sector3 Studios

rrr3e_download

The configuration is pretty simple as the “shared memory” flag (allow sending data that contains car telemetry and contextual info) is already activated.

You just need to deactivated the Fanatec Native support if you own a Fanatec steering wheel, goto control settings and map any button or keyboard Key to Fanatec LED/Display function to be able to switch OFF the native management (press several time until OFF is displayed) and let SLIMax Manager takes the control of your Fanatec wheel LEDS/DISPLAY.

Due to a bad management or bugs, only the DIGITS are set to OFF not the shiftlights, you have to edit your ControlSet in c:\Users\-username-\Documents\MyGame\Simbin\Your configuration… and set the tag below to

G27 Led range low=”0.0″ // Min: 0.00, Max: 1.00, Default: 0.81
G27 Led range high=”0.0″ // Min: 0.00, Max: 1.00, Default: 0.96

Led Display Enabled=”0″ // Steering Wheel Led Display Enabled

Deactivate the native management of CSP rumble motors will also prevent SLIMax Manager Pro to use the motors!! which is not cool!
We hope the R3E Developers will add asap a simple bypass of the native management of LEDS/DIGITS/MOTORS …

2015-07-16_192143

Now to CAP Frame Rate!?
Well, it seems in current version of R3E that you can’t limit the FPS to give some CPU to all other apps running in background, this is a serious limitation of the simulation… For now we suggest to activate the VSync in video settings if your monitors is under 60Hz…

to

Use Additional Hardware Features=”0” // Whether to use additional hardware features like steering wheel LEDs
Hardware 3Digit Display=”0” // If hardware has 3-digit display, 0=off, 1=gear, 2=speed

Attention, the rFactor 2 settings in latest version are inJSON format and to disable the native management of Fanatec LEDs you have to change:

When OSP (Optimal Shift Point) is triggered?

Why the first time I enter the track OSP isn’t triggered when gear 4 and beyond are engaged?

1) OSP by default start with gear 2 and don’t use the last gear (you can change this in setup)
2) OSP by default use the MAX FORWARD GEARS AT STARTUP  info to determine the max forward gears of current car (almost all simulations API does not provide this info)
3) At startup OSP works only with gear 2 and 3, excepted if you change the MAX FORWARD GEARS AT STARTUP in your setup because the simulation API doesn’t give us the number of gears of current car

Conclusion, if you want to have an OSP up and ready at startup, you have two choices:
1) you drive only ONE type of car so you can change MAX FORWARD GEARS AT STARTUP with a fixed value (i.e. using always F1 cars = 7 )
2) you drive more than one type of car (i.e. GT and F1 ), so when you go on the track engage all gears before leaving the stand

IMPORTANT:
rFactor 2 and Project CARS API provide the max forward gears info, so they are not affected.

Most common error with Simbin GTR2 and other Simbin games?

You need to change your PLR file (Simbin Profile) before using SLIMax Mgr and your USB device.
Search for “Write Shared Memory” and set it to “1“. see the Simbin section for more details.

For info:
the GTR2 Setup (PLR) is on .\GTR2\UserData\PLAYER\PLAYER.PLR

where PLAYER = your GTR2 player name

open this file with notepad.exe and follow FAQ instructions

Individual brightness mode usage:

Attention, individual brigthness mode is not recommended, use GLOBAL brightness instead.

Individual brightness is available with SLI-PRO and SLI-M device

Go to Advanced Options panel to edit your setup and change these settings:

2014-05-05_184841

1) you CANNOT have global and individual brightness set together,
go to Advanced Options panel and set GLOBAL BRIGHTNESS to 0 (zero) to deactivate it

2) Each tag below define, with a comma delimited list, the brightness value of each led in range 1 to 8.
SHIFTLIGHTS RPM BRIGHTNESS (13 entries),
MARSHALL LED BRIGHTNESS (6 entries)
EXTERNAL LED BRIGHTNESS (5 entries)

3) Gear digit and the left/right digits panels are defined with 1 value from 1 to 8
CENTRAL GEAR BRIGHTNESS (1 entry),
RIGHT DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS (left panel, 1 entry)
LEFT DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS (right panel, 1 entry)

4) Optional: calibrate your device brightness by adjusting the maximum brightness value from 128 to 220 (default 140)
To calibrate your device, Choose the ‘Test Device…’ menu and check if the device do not reset by itself during the testing process, if it does, decrease the maximum value (personally I use 180 for SLIM and 150 for SLI-PRO, just so you know…).

** Your device should not FREEZE OR RESET by itself during the test **
